En un contexto de creciente interés por la sostenibilidad en el turismo, este estudio analiza las percepciones del personal sobre prácticas sostenibles en establecimientos de alojamiento en Cuenca, Ecuador. El objetivo del estudio es analizar las percepciones del personal sobre las prácticas de sostenibilidad en los establecimientos de alojamiento de Cuenca, Ecuador. Se seleccionó un enfoque cuantitativo, alcance descriptivo y diseño no experimental. Se aplicó una encuesta a empleados del sector hotelero, abordando temas como conocimiento institucional, capacitación, prácticas observadas y obstáculos percibidos. Los resultados indican que el 78% del personal conoce las políticas de sostenibilidad, aunque solo el 54% considera que se aplican de forma estructurada. Las prácticas más reconocidas son el uso eficiente de energía, el ahorro de agua y la gestión de residuos. No obstante, áreas como la educación ambiental y la sostenibilidad en la cadena de suministro siguen poco desarrolladas. Se identifican barreras como la formación insuficiente y la resistencia al cambio. Se concluye que, si bien hay avances, se necesita una mayor integración de la sostenibilidad en la gestión hotelera, fortaleciendo la capacitación y el liderazgo institucional.
In a context of growing interest in sustainability within the tourism sector, this study analyzes staff perceptions of sustainable practices in lodging establishments in Cuenca, Ecuador. A survey was conducted among hotel employees, addressing topics such as institutional knowledge, training, observed practices, and perceived obstacles. Results indicate that 78% of the staff are aware of sustainability policies, although only 54% believe they are implemented in a structured manner. The most recognized practices include energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management. However, areas such as environmental education and sustainability in the supply chain remain underdeveloped. Barriers identified include insufficient training and resistance to change. The study concludes that, while there has been progress, greater integration of sustainability into hotel management is needed, along with stronger training programs and institutional leadership. The objective of the study is to analyze the perceptions of staff on sustainable practices in lodging establishments in Cuenca, Ecuador.
